Your Library Card

Who can get a library card, how to apply, and how to use your library card.

With the exception of nonresident and contract cards, no charge is made to a person or business for a library card.  Responsibility for items borrowed with a library card rests with the owner of that card.  The length of time a card is valid will be determined by the library administration.  The Tipton Public Library issues the following type of library card:

Tipton/Cedar County Resident Cards

Issued free of charge to any person living within the corporate limits of the City of Tipton.  Proof of residence is required at staff's discretion.

Cards from other libraries are barcoded for use in the Tipton Public LIbrary and individuals are required to fill out an application form.

Fines and Fees

The library will charge fines on materials that are returned late or damaged and bill the replacement/processing cost, including any charges resulting from third party intervention, to cardholders responsible for the materials.  Cardholders will also be billed for lost materials that were checked out with their cards.

The library is committed to providing basic services-such as access to facilities, in-house use and loan of library materials, interlibrary loan, and basic information/reference services-at no cost to cardholders.  In order to help defray the cost of services that extend beyond those considered basic, fees will be charged for such things as photocopies of printed or filmed materials, computer database searches, and the use of the meeting room.  The library also reserves the right to charge fees for specialized information services developed to meet a specific need and for the use of the library database by other institutions or individuals.
